Energy Foundation

 

The Energy Foundation (EF) is dedicated to securing a “clean and equitable energy future” as organizations around the nation and world tackle the globe’s ever-expanding climate crisis.  The Foundation says that it envisions “a healthy, safe, equitable economy,” powered they advocate, by sustainable operations, innovation, and projects that protect our climate for today as well as future generations.

Founded nearly 30 years ago, the Energy Foundation works to educate policymakers and the general public on the benefits of a clean energy economy.  The Foundation originally started as a private foundation but converted over to a 501 (c) (3) public charity effective January 1, 2006.

Major Energy Foundation offices are located in San Francisco (headquarters), Washington DC, Chicago, Raleigh, and Las Vegas.

Solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources are the Energy Foundation’s strongest pursuits.  Grantees, who received more than $79 million in 2018, include business, health, environmental, labor, equity, community, faith, and consumer groups.  Four hundred grants were made to 275 groups in calendar 2017.  The Energy Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals or letters of inquiry.

The Foundation’s current focus is on: 1) executing a strategy refresh for their future endeavors; 2) promoting a greater commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges; and, 3) more rapid expansion geographically.  Priority is placed by the leadership team on power, transportation, and building projects.
